Dr. Lang has been teaching voice for over 30 years with the past 29 years as a faculty member at Cincinnati Christian University where she was the lead voice instructor. She also taught beginning music theory, voice class, voice studio, vocal pedagogy, advanced choral conducting, and directed their 40 voice Concert Choir and 25 voice acapella group, Resonate. As part of her teaching responsibilities, she also produced the annual sold-out Christmas Dinner Theater and other theater productions including Fiddler on the Roof and Music Man. Dr. Lang travelled throughout the United States with Concert Choir and twice to Brazil where they performed over 15 concerts during each tour. Although the majority of Dr. Lang’s students have been college-age, she has taught all age groups from middle school through senior adults in her private studio. The vocal styles she teaches range from classical to musical theater, gospel to Contemporary Christian Music, and popular music. Dr. Lang completed her Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music where she studied voice with Mary Henderson-Stucky.
Dr. Brenda Lang
Dr. Lang greatly enjoys working with each individual student to help them develop and reach their vocal potential. Her intent is to develop smart singers who understand the mechanics of the voice and are able to maintain a long-term, healthy approach to singing. Over the 30 years of teaching at the collegiate level, she has been able to hone her teaching skills, accomplishing significant progress with each voice in a short amount of time while striving to teach the student the “whys” along with the “hows.” Dr. Lang loves working with every student and enjoys assisting them as they find their voice, develop their musicianship, and accomplish their personal goals. Her teaching is simple and easy to understand and displays the passion she has for the voice and love for her students.
Dr. Lang has extensive performing experience spanning various genres including classical, musical theater, Contemporary Christian, and pop. She has performed throughout the states and internationally including Germany and Brazil. Some of her opera and musical theater roles include: Baby Doe (The Ballad of Baby Doe), Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Gilda (Rigoletto), Adele (Die Fledermaus), Wendy (Peter Pan), and Carrie Pipperidge (Carousel). Brenda’s concert work as soprano soloist encompasses performances of Haydn’s Mass in D Minor, Carl Orff’s Carmina Burana, Poulenc’s Gloria, Mozart’s Missa Brevis, and Handel’s Messiah. She also traveled the east coast with the Chautauqua School of Music Orchestra performing as their guest soloist. She has also done extensive solo concerts throughout her performing career. Recently, she was a part of a recording project for PARMA records under the direction of Paul Stanbery which featured new compositions by various composers. Brenda is regularly found as part of the worship team at the church she attends where she plays keys and sings backup. Dr. Lang also is a consultant to churches who are looking to improve their worship team’s vocal sound.
Here’s what others are saying…
I began studying with Dr. Lang after I finished my master’s degree in voice performance. Brenda was exactly the teacher I needed…
She has helped fill the gaps in my technique. I have experienced an incredible amount of growth in the months she has been my teacher. Together, we have worked to discover the most honest version of my voice. Not only has she helped me with singing, but Brenda also has helped me professionally as I navigate the crazy life of a musician. Her advice has been invaluable, and her genuine care for her students makes singing for her a delight. Her technical philosophy puts singers’ health and longevity first making her an excellent teacher for young, developing voices.
Miriam Cantwell, soprano
Brenda had a tremendous impact on me! Her energy, joy and passion spill out in everything she does, and she brought those into the practice room every time…
I met her when I was extremely inexperienced and had little knowledge or control over my voice. She helped me learn how to use my voice, strengthen it and care for it in ways that have helped me have a career in music for 14 years now. She was and has continued to be a great encourager to me. Still to this day the greatest thing I tell people about Brenda is that she didn’t try to change who I was as a vocalist. She listened to me, got to know & showed appreciation for my style, and then helped me get better at what I do and how I do it.
Justin Mosteller, founder & lead singer of the band, Carrollton
Dr. Brenda Lang is my voice teacher. She has been instructing me for only three months and has already helped me progress so much!..
She works on any song I need for an audition or solo, and also teaches technique and application for every day singing. Dr. Lang encourages hard work, vocal health, and preparedness for lessons. In just a short time, my voice has grown exponentially from where it was before. I would recommend Dr. Lang to anyone who desires voice lessons.
Isaiah Hetrick, high school student
While I was a piano major in college, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with Brenda as I accompanied many voice students for lessons, studio classes, and recitals…
I spent countless hours seeing her in action as she brilliantly nurtured each student to their full potential. Brenda doesn’t just teach notes, rhythms, vocal technique and diction, she is also extremely effective in developing a student’s sense of expression, musicality, and characterization. Her warm, friendly, positive attitude creates an environment ripe for learning, and she tailors her approach for each individual according to their specific needs and goals. For the past 20 years I’ve worked with numerous voice teachers throughout college, grad school, various events, festivals, competitions, and master classes. If you ask me who you should study voice with, my answer is Brenda Lang. Her ability to figure out how to foster the innate musician in each student is nothing short of amazing.
Clinton Pratt: piano teacher, accompanist, 2016 OhioMTA Southwest District Teacher of the Year
Brenda has been my voice teacher for four years and has helped me make dramatic changes to my voice in a positive direction!..
I look forward to learning new things at each lesson and soaking in the knowledge and technique given to me. She makes the student’s goals a priority and shapes each lesson towards the needs of that specific student. Whatever you want to accomplish with your voice, she’s the person to help you get there!
Hannah Petry, mezzo-soprano
When I first began music lessons with Dr. Brenda Lang, I was horribly insecure and I had little natural musical ability…
There was something about Dr. Lang’s spirit and genuine adoration for music that was contagious, and forced me to never give up on my goals. That motivation pushed me through hours and hours of practice and hard work. Because of her, I improved immensely, I gained confidence in my vocal ability, I learned how to truly come alive on stage, and she ultimately helped me to complete my Bachelor of Music Degree at Cincinnati Christian University. I would not be where I am today without her. She will help you grow more than you ever thought possible. I will cherish every lesson I’ve had with Brenda in my heart forever, and I will always love her dearly as my teacher and mentor.

Dr. Lang is an incredibly talented crafter of the human voice…
She is proficient at polishing even the most trained voices into professional-sounding vocalists, but is also adept at refining “diamond-in-the-rough” voices by investing deeply into each vocalist on an individual basis to discover the pedagogical methods that work best for each unique voice (and her storehouse of methods is rarely emptied). She is very capable of training a wide range of vocal styles, but above all will make sure that each of her students is singing safely, and will maintain their voice for a lifetime.
