Dr. Shang Jung Lin

Dr. Shang Jung Lin believes that every student can learn to play the violin and strives to build that confidence in every student. She believes it is very important for students to fall in love with the instrument they are learning. Dr. Lin offers lessons in a comfortable and understanding environment; a place where students can experiment and make mistakes without judgement and with the guidance of a teacher.

Dr. Lin is comfortable teaching all playing levels and all ages groups, including beginning level adult students. Throughout her collegiate years she coached and assisted advanced level students preparing for recitals, orchestra auditions, and college entry auditions. In addition to violin, Dr. Lin also teaches music theory, viola, and piano. Having completed her Doctorate in Violin Performance, Dr. Lin is now focused on helping her students and building her reputation as a dedicated teacher. She believes that playing music is an important part of societal tradition and that all students deserve the best education possible.

Originally from Taiwan, Dr. Lin holds her Doctor of Musical Arts in Violin Performance from the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. She earned her Master’s degree in Violin Performance from The Boston Conservatory and her Bachelor’s degree in Violin Performance from Taipei Municipal University of Education.

An active performer, Dr. Lin has presented numerous solo and chamber recitals throughout her education. She also participated in major music festivals including Ameropa Music in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and Green Mountain in Vermont. She has performed in master classes given by world-renown pedagogues including Vadim Mazo, Ada Slivanska, Chin Kim, Gregory Lee.
