One of many things that sets CMA apart is how often our teachers attend workshops and conferences to keep their teaching skills fresh and up to date. In September, here’s a sampling of what some of our piano department faculty did professionally:CMA piano teachers Amy Immerman, Natasha Pence and Tom Schneider attended a program presented by the Ohio Music Teachers Association, SW on September 8 at the Anderson Center. The topic was teaching adults. Natasha and Amy were two of three presenters. Natasha spoke about teaching adults in private lessons, and Amy spoke about teaching adults in recreational group classes.On September 9, Amy Immerman attended the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Leadership Summit and gave a presentation to MTNA State Presidents, Division Directors and Board of Directors. Amy is the manager of MTNA’s new eFestival, an online evaluation program in which any pianist, of any level, may upload videos and receive a critique on their performance. This is a great way to be evaluated without having to play in front of a live audience. Sept. 23, presented by Sam Holland, Dean of the Southern Methodist University School of the Arts in Dallas, TX. The workshop was entitled: What Makes a Good Lesson?
