Nick Pierok

Nick first picked up the guitar when he was nine years old. Inspired by his father’s love for The Beatles, Nick quickly began learning as many songs as he could. Seeing that he was invested in playing the guitar, his parents signed him up for lessons in order to help him progress. It was in his guitar lessons where he was exposed to a wide variety of musical styles and genres. One day, Nick was introduced to the jazz guitarist, Grant Green. The combination of bluesy guitar licks similar to Clapton along with the fiery intensity of a jazz rhythm section immediately grabbed his attention. From then on, Nick began to focus heavily on studying jazz guitar, which culminated in him graduating from The University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) with a BM in Music Education with a Jazz Specialization.

Nick’s teaching philosophy stems directly from his own education. He focuses on developing a meaningful relationship with all music, regardless of genre. His goal is for his students to find the genre of music that speaks the most to them, whether that is country, rock, pop, or blues. Students will have the opportunity to play all genres of music, regardless of age. The only requirement to study with Nick is a desire to learn.

Nick also sees the extra benefits of studying music. Aside from learning a new instrument or technique, learning music teaches discipline and focus. Developing strong habits in studying music directly translates into a more focused mindset in all other aspects of life. Beyond that, music teaches us to keep learning. There is always something new to learn in music, whether it is an advanced technique or simply a new chord. Similarly, there are always new hurdles in life for us to get past, regardless of age.

Nick graduated from CCM with a strong understanding of music theory and music history. Additionally, through the Music Education degree, Nick is licensed to teach students from Kindergarten through 12th grade in the public schools after having studied pedagogical techniques for teaching music.

As a professional musician, Nick has performed throughout the Greater Cincinnati area as a band member, band leader, and soloist. He has performed rock, blues, pop, country, and jazz.

Nick specializes in teaching guitar, but also teaches bass guitar, ukulele, and music theory.
